Council Meeting
May 10, 2023

17. Mayor Officer called the meeting to order at 6:00pm and the pledge was done and

roll call taken.

19. Minutes:

  The minutes of April 12, 2023 were considered. MSP: To approve the

minutes of April

22. Councilor Bloom turned in his letter of resignation due to his new job promotion

being a potential
23. Conflict of interest.
24. The City Council discussed the council seat vacancy, and agreed to advertise the

position immediately

25. in the newspaper, the city website, and to post fliers here at City Hall and the Post

Office.

27. Mayor Officer requested permission to begin negotiations with the Grant County

Sherriff’s Office

28. for the law enforcement contract between the Sherriff’s Department and the City

of Prairie City.

29. The City plans to dedicate the funds to pay one full time police officer at $100,000

per year.

30. MSP: To approve Mayor Officer begin negotiations with the Grant County

Police

31. Department, Councilor Reagan/Shaw          4 Yays      1 Nay    Councilor

Williams abstained

32. from voting, stating that the costs are too expensive and believes won’t fix

the issues at hand.

35. The Budget Hearing will be June 14, 2023

37. The Prairie City FFA Alumni asked the City to donate to their program. Councilor

Brook William

38. recused herself because she is on the committee. The council agreed to donate

$500 to the FFA.

39. MSP: To approve the City donating $500 to the FFA Alumni Councilor

Gangler/Shaw

41. Mayor Officer read the financial overview to everyone present.
42. Fire Chief, Marvin Rynearson applied for another wildfire prevention grant on

behalf of the City.

44. Payables: Council read through the budget and expenditure report. MSP: To pay

the bills

45. Councilor Williams/Gangler.

47. Public Works Director, Chris Camarena reported that the City has been inundated

with groundwater

48. in the sewer. Booster Site not keeping up and experiencing some overflow, DEQ is

aware and will be

49. issuing a small violation but said it will help the City show the need for the

updates on the

50. wastewater grant that we are going after.

52. Museum to open May 15, 2023, Museum Director, Bob Shive announced that the

City is desperate

53. for volunteers at the museum. Councilor Candy Reagan offered to volunteer.

55. Shonalie Oakes, City Recorder will order the ribbons for this year’s 4th of July

Celebration.
